Calls for reform as cost of care jobs for elderly rises by 150% in 7 yearsBy admin I Care Jobs News I 0 comment
THE Scottish Government is facing calls for a wholesale review of care provision in Scotland after figures showed the cost of the flagship policy of free personal care for the elderly has spiralled 157 per cent in the past seven years. The cost primarily relates to the number of new elderly care jobs.
The £342 million cost of free personal care jobs to people in their own home in 2010-11 was up from £317m the previous year. It also represented a massive increase on the £133m figure in 2003-4, the first full year of the controversial policy. Social work chiefs and charities said there was now a growing case for a major rethink on how to cope with long-term care job costs.
